Spring Planting and Wellbeing

Congratulations, you’ve made it through the breadth of winter if you live in the northern hemisphere! As we emerge from lessened daylight, colder days, and increased isolation, spring can feel like a welcome breath of air and activity. It is tempting to jump into every activity available, and today we’ll discuss the option of engaging with soil and nature: spring planting!

Spring is the perfect time to re-energize ourselves through connecting with the physical elements of the outdoors. Research shows that practicing gardening has positive effects on anxiety, depression, physical health, social engagement, self-esteem, and quality of life. The benefits appear endless. Heart rate decreases, breathing slows, and mindfulness of the present moment are all results of interacting with soil and plants, no matter how big or small.

Here at MCSP, we recognize the capability of connecting with nature in the unique way of planting and gardening, or even sitting amongst trees and flowers. We are happy to find the right fit for you here if you are interested in exploring resourcing yourself using interaction with plants and soil.

If you want to start small at home, try saving the bottom roots of your green onions or lettuce, and put it in a cup of water. Set in a sunny windowsill, keep full of water, and watch new plants grow!
